Grant awarded to: Vinita Ramkalowon
Ymddiried’s Contribution: £1,000
I am deeply grateful to Ymddiried for awarding me the £1,000 grant that enabled my participation in the NFTS Wales Writers Academy 2026.
This support made it possible for me to fully engage with the programme, which ran from February to May 2026 and combined in-person weekends, online seminars, structured exercises, and intensive script development under the expert tutelage of John Yorke, renowned Sony Pictures Animation adviser, Netflix television executive, BBC producer and commissioner, and one of the UK’s leading teachers of the craft of storytelling.
Attendance and course participation
The Academy delivered a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum covering story archetypes, structural principles, scene craft, characterisation, dialogue, exposition, multi-protagonism, pitching, and showrunning.
I participated fully in all lectures, workshops, and group exercises, including The Plot Against America analysis, the Land of Mine narrative-drive exercise, and the multi-protagonist structural labs.
I also contributed to the collaborative showrunning rooms, supporting peer story development and receiving structured feedback on my own work.
The £1,000 grant was used to cover travel from North Wales to Cardiff for the in-person weekends, as well as accommodation in the city. This support removed financial barriers that would otherwise have limited my ability to attend in person and fully participate in the collaborative and practical elements of the programme.
